Beeler Carlisle Eskridge, 91, of Raleigh passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018. He was born on April 16, 1927 in Springfield, Missouri, the only child of Fredrick Beeler Eskridge and Irene Lavender Eskridge. He lived briefly in Kansas City, Missouri before moving with his family to Atlanta, Georgia.
Beeler grew up in Atlanta, attending the public schools there, and graduating from Boys High School in 1944. He enrolled at Georgia Tech for a semester before joining the Merchant Marine Cadet Corp. Following basic training in California, he spent a year in the Pacific before entering the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He graduated from the Academy in 1948 with a BS degree in Marine Engineering. He then returned to Atlanta and re-entered Georgia Tech. He graduated from Tech in 1950 with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree. While at Tech, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Beeler began his business career as a sales representative with Marchant Calculators and became one of their leading producers. He was promoted and transferred to Raleigh in 1956 and ran their operations in eastern North Carolina until they merged with Smith Corona Typewriters to become SCM Corporation. He remained with SCM until 1969, when he and his fellow associates started their own company, Electronic Office Systems, Inc. In 1993, he retired and the business was sold to Carolina Office Equipment Company, which operates today as Coeco Office Systems.
During his years in Raleigh, he was a member of many organizations, including The Raleigh Kiwanis Club, Terpsicorian Club, Capitol Cotillion Club, Carrousel Club, Circle Club and the Carolina Country Club, among others. He loved to study God's Word at Bible Study Fellowship and other Bible Studies.
His life centered around his family, whom he adored.
Beeler was an outgoing and friendly man with a wonderful sense of humor and a thankful heart. He will be greatly missed. He loved to play golf and garden and after fifty years of playing golf, he made a hole in one in 2009 at the Carolina Country Club, which pleased him greatly!
Beeler was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Ryan Eskridge.
He is survived by a daughter, Alyce Eskridge Mullen and her husband Spears; a daughter, Carolyn Eskridge; a granddaughter, Catharine Mullen Palmer and her husband Scott; a grandson, Peter Mullen; and a great-grandson, Miles Palmer, all of Raleigh.
