

Bina was born in 1946 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, to Chand Rani Nautiyal (née Wadhwa, née Capur) and Prem Shankar Wadhwa. She grew up in a family deeply rooted in education, service, and the arts. Inspired by her father’s work as a Chief Engineer with Indian Railways, Bina developed an early love for drawing, which led her father to encourage her to pursue architecture.
After completing her Senior Cambridge certificate at Loreto Convent in Lucknow, Bina went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Roorkee, now known as an Indian Institute of Technology.
In 1971, Bina married Chander Mohan and moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada where they began their new life together. Shortly after, they relocated to Ottawa, Ontario, where Bina became a licensed architect in Canada. She worked with a reputable architectural firm, designing commercial buildings and residential homes. Her passion and professionalism earned her the admiration of her colleagues.
In 1980, Bina and her family moved to Cary, North Carolina, USA, where she continued her career with Nortel Networks (Nortel), managing space planning and furniture design for the company’s RTP real estate portfolio for over 20 years.
Bina’s love for design also extended to her own home in Raleigh, North Carolina, which she thoughtfully created and enjoyed for over 30 years. She was always eager to explore new places and make memories with her many friends and family members.
Bina’s greatest joy was raising her two daughters, Monica Awasthi and Sonia Jager, who grew to become strong, independent women. She was a devoted Nani to her five grandchildren: Neil, Sheila, and Eva Awasthi, and Simryn and Sean Jager.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chander Mohan, her daughters, Monica Awasthi and Sonia Jager, her sons-in-law, Dalip Awasthi and Rama Jager, her grandchildren, and numerous cherished relatives from the Seth, Melville, Wadhwa, Capur, and Nautiyal families.
Bina leaves behind a remarkable legacy of compassion, strength, and excellence. She inspired all who knew her with her unwavering kindness and her remarkable ability to create, nurture, and lead.
A funeral service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home & Crematory, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh. on March 4, 2026, at 9:30 am.
