

Christine was born in Greensboro, NC to Anne Peterson Holland and Benjamin Carr Holland. She was educated at UNC Greensboro and taught elementary school in Raleigh in the early years of her marriage. A student with vision problems inspired her lifelong passion for children’s sight. She would go on to become a long term board member of the North Carolina Society to Prevent Blindness.
In addition to her dedication to prevent blindness, Chris served as a volunteer for many local charitable organizations. Her creative flair made her a natural as the decorating committee chairperson of the fund raising galas for many Raleigh charities through the years.
Chris was also a founding member of the Red Sword Guild, a board member of the college of Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina State University and a member of the North Carolina Museum of History Board. She was also a member of the Junior League of Raleigh Community Advisory Board.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, William F. Hamlin , Jr. ; her daughters, Katherine Anne Hamlin and Christina Kelley Hamlin; her son and daughter-in-law, William F. Hamlin, III and Jane Stewart Hamlin; and her beloved grandson, William F. “Drake” Hamlin, IV, all of Raleigh.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 2pm at Edenton Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in Kerr Hall. The family will also receive friends at their home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Prevent Blindness North Carolina, nc.preventblindness.org; or to the Rex Hospital Foundation, www.rexhealth.com/foundation; or to the charity of one’s choice.
