

Casey (age 90) died peacefully at home on May 26, 2025, surrounded by family. Casey was born on June 11, 1934 in Flagtown, New Jersey to John and Henrica Simonse, formally of the Netherlands. Casey grew up on the family farm where his prized possession was his cow. Casey graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, New Jersey. In his younger years, Casey worked at the local store in Blawenburg, drove a truck for Trenton Steel and was a volunteer Fireman where he drove the fire truck. Casey met the love of his life, Doris Emma Baker, whom he spent 58 years with before her passing. Casey served in the Navy during the Korean war where he was a pilot and was stationed in Cuba for a while which he loved. Casey worked and retired from International Business Machines (IBM) where he worked in the marketing division and traveled all over the world. Casey was awarded the Governor's highest honor, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1990 for his service to the state to North Carolina.
Casey is survived by his children, Debra Roten, Linda Stiles and Karen Hancock (Jeff); his four grandchildren, Phillip Stiles (Gina), Kayla Stiles (Dillon), Zach Hancock and Alyssa Hancock; his brothers, Herman and Arnold; and his devoted family caretakers, Tika and Rams.
Besides spending time with his family and friends, Casey enjoyed traveling, keeping his grass in top condition, working on cars and playing pranks.
Casey had a bright and energetic personality and was known for his willingness to help those in need. Casey touched many lives with his generosity and kindness. His nickname in the neighbourhood was "The Mayor".
Family and friends were invited to a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, located at 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund or the American Heart Association.
