Daniel Terrill Russler

Dan was born on December 7th, 1936, in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1954. While in high school he was on the wrestling team and was an active Boy Scout member. At the University of Virginia he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and graduated in 1958 with a B.S. in Psychology.

After his time at “The University,” Dan joined the United States Navy where he sailed in the South Pacific on the USS Valley Forge. He married Charlotte Sue Jett in 1962, and continued to serve his country for three years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant J.G. In 1963 Dan moved to Charlotte to pursue a career in sales with the Olin Corporation and then moved to Raleigh to work for Munsingwear. Ultimately, he found his passion in the financial services industry as a wealth management advisor. For most of his career, until his passing, he enjoyed serving his clients at Mid-Atlantic Securities.

Dan was a longtime parishioner at Christ Church where he enjoyed worshiping and serving as Chalice Bearer, Usher, and member of the Brass Guild. He also looked forward to his fellowship with the Thursday morning bible study.

Most of all, he loved being with his children and grandchildren, supporting them in all their extracurricular activities. Some of his fondest memories were coaching his son on the Country Club Bulldogs football team and watching his daughters’ dance recitals and tennis matches. He also relished his time being “The Voice of the Ravens” for the Ravenscroft football team. Lastly, his greatest joy was being surrounded by his children and grandchildren over the holidays.

Dan is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Charlotte Sue Jett Russler; son, Daniel Terrill Russler, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth (Libby) Current Russler; daughter, Polly Russler Danyla and husband, Stephen George Danyla; daughter, Sue Jett Russler Taylor and husband, Erik Hayes Taylor.

He was blessed with nine grandchildren whom he adored, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Jett Russler, Daniel Terrill Russler III, William Ange Current Russler, Adeline Blundon Danyla, Stephen Russler Danyla, Charlotte Downing Danyla, Charlotte Sue Jett Taylor, Eva Stewart Taylor and Elizabeth Hayes Taylor.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 East Edenton St. Raleigh, NC 27601. A reception will follow the service in the church Commons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Christ Church.
