Danny graduated from Broughton High School in 1953. After high school, he attended Elon College for one year.
After his year at Elon, he volunteered for the draft and served in the Army as an MP in Anchorage, Alaska from 1954 to 1956.
When Danny returned to Raleigh after his service, he married the love of his life, Margaret Henson and stayed married for over 65 years, from 1956 until his death.
Danny enjoyed his life’s work managing at Carroll’s Greenhouses that spanned his entire career from 1956 until the business closed in 1997.
Danny maintained his mischievousness and sense of humor until the very end, cracking jokes, and one-liners.
Danny is survived by his wife, Margaret, son Kirk, daughter Diane and her husband Glenn Rupert; brothers Terry and wife Elsie of Raleigh; Tim and his wife Carole of Lumberton, NC; as well as eight grandsons; one great grandson and three great granddaughters.
The family is immensely grateful to the care and support of the hospice care workers that assisted Danny at the end of his life: Sarah Upchurch (who referred to Danny as “Dashing Dan,”) Judy Adams, Denise Webb and LaVern Pegram of Transitions and Emily Barrett and Emily Regan of Palliative Care.
