Dave was born and raised in Indiana to the late Rosa Ellis and Truman Nelson. After relocating to North Carolina, he met the love of his life, Marguriete, in 1994 and they married March 18, 1995.
Dave was a commercial truck driver by trade and in 1995 he joined the State of NC Governors Highway Safety Program where he transported and ran the Governor's Click It or Ticket driving simulator. Dave enjoyed all aspects of his job, especially meeting new people at every stop. Dave never hesitated to stop and talk to anyone about about anything, although some may say he had his own "strong opinions," especially if politics was the subject! Dave retired from the State of NC in 2009, which allowed he and Marguriete to travel for pleasure in one of Dave's beloved campers.
Dave became a member of Creedmoor Road Baptist Church in Raleigh, after being baptized just one day after he and Marguriete married. He and Marguriete were married at Creedmoor Road Baptist where Marguriete has been a lifelong member and they remained active in this congregation.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Marguriete; sister, Loretta of Indiana; daughters, Shellie and Rosalee; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren of Indiana; stepsons, Jeff (Kelley) and Jerry (Sheena) and 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren of North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his daughter, Leisa Johnston.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 28, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park.
