Delilah Little Turpin

Delilah Anne Little was born in McBee, SC and grew up in nearby Cheraw, SC, where she was conspicuously intelligent and tall. She decided at a young age to become a physician, like her maternal Grandfather, who made house calls in a horse and carriage.

Delilah attended Randolph Macon Women’s College, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Her father then sold part of the family farm to pay for her to attend the University of Virginia Medical School. There she met her future husband, Bill Turpin. Bill and Delilah were married on June 1, 1963 at the University of Virginia Chapel. Delilah graduated from UVA that same month with an MD and finished her residency in New York City, where her son Brad was born in May 1966.

Delilah practiced pediatric medicine in Raleigh, NC for 25 years and was beloved by her patients and their parents. She was a lifelong seeker of truth and wisdom and a charter member of the Project Enlightenment group in Raleigh. Delilah loved to entertain and converse, and she loved beauty in all its forms-- especially flowers. She consciously chose to focus on the positive and share joy.

For all of her 86 years, Delilah cherished her family. She was the daughter of the late George Thomas Little and the late Mason Ingram Little. Delilah was predeceased by her husband Bill and her sister, Sandra Mullen. She is survived by her son Brad Turpin and his wife Kathleen, her grandsons Joshua Turpin (Brittany) and Isaac Turpin (Christine), her great-grandson Thaddeus Turpin, her niece Lynn Stephenson and her husband Randy, her nephew Michael Mullen, and her great-nephew Nathan Stephenson and great-niece Marissa Stephenson.

The family gives their special thanks to Josephine Gentry’s team of fantastic caregivers who enabled Delilah to spend the last half year of her life in the comfort of her beloved home-- especially Josephine, Ashley, Dee, Nikki, and Victory.

Delilah’s celebration of life service will be at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church at 27 Horne Street on Saturday, December 16 at 11:00am. The family requests that any memorial gifts be sent to UNICEF (https://www.unicefusa.org/how-help/donate) or the charity of their choice.
