Dorothy Whitfield Harrington

Dorothy Whitfield Harrington of Raleigh went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 15, 2016. She was born in Hurdle Mills, NC to her loving parents, the late Claude and Norma Whitfield. Known to family and friends as “Dot”, she earned her education degree from ECU. Dot met and married the love of her life, Billy Harrington, and upon his completion of military service, they made Raleigh their lifelong home for over 60 years raising three children.

As a wonderful and dedicated teacher for over 30 years in Wake County, she touched many children’s lives. She was an active member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church for over 55 years where she offered her time and talent generously in many services. Upon their retirement they both enjoyed traveling, visiting grandchildren, bridge with friends and vacationing with family.

Dot will be remembered for her love of family, friends, church, her Lord Jesus, a compassionate heart and countless acts of kindness. Dot was preceded by her late husband Billy Harrington.

She is survived by daughters Anne Karangelen and husband Pete of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Carol King and husband Ed of Greenville, NC; son Bill Harrington, Jr and wife Louisa of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Will, Tanner, Preston, Anna and Lillie of Dallas, TX; sisters Betty Sue Moye and Shirley Gower of Raleigh.

A memorial service will be held at Hayes Barton Baptist Church on Friday October 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the church.
