

Mrs. Walters was born in Clinton, S.C. on September 21, 1923, the daughter of the late Francis Marion Stutts and Alberta Riddell Stutts. Her husband of over 60 years, the late Edward A. Walters, died in 2004. Mrs. Walters was a graduate of Clinton High School and a 1943 graduate of Presbyterian College in Clinton. She was a devoted wife and mother of three sons. Her oldest son, Richard Edward Walters, died in 1980.
Citizens of Raleigh will remember Mrs. Walters as co-owner of Handy Man Hardware, Inc. on New Bern Ave. She and her husband founded the company in 1956, and she worked there daily until their retirement in 1988. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a long- time member of Longview Community Club.
Surviving are her son, David H. Walters of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and her son, and daughter-in-law, Steven M. Walters and Sally Smith Walters of Durham; four grandchildren, Brandon Walters, Stephanie Walters, Brian Davis, Jennifer Herman; three great-granddaughters, Abigail Herman, Ashley Herman, and Alexis Matthews; and a niece, Nancy Stutts Karaman of Fayetteville, N.C.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 1st at 10:00 am at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.
