Hewett Lovvorn, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Raleigh, NC on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born on August 10, 1944, in Orangeburg, SC to the late Lt. Edward Hewett Lovvorn and Lillian Griffith Lovvorn Williams.
Sadly, Hewett’s father—a B-24 navigator and Second Lieutenant—was killed in action over France in January 1943 during WWII, before Hewett was born. Though they never met, Hewett remained deeply proud of his father’s service. He remained close with the Lovvorn family throughout his life and kept his father's memory alive.
Hewett graduated from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL. He attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina, majoring in English. He was a very proud son and native of South Carolina, he especially loved Gamecock athletics.
Hewett spent most of his working career as a food broker. His first job after graduating from USC was with General Foods in Greenville, SC. He later came to Raleigh and worked with D.F. Cameron Co., one of the largest food brokerage firms in the Carolinas, until his retirement.
Later in his life, he was the manager of Trinity Ridge Apartments in Raleigh. His Christmas parties for the residents were always memorable and a lot of fun.
Hewett had a great interest and love of military history, especially the Civil War. Hewett loved good food, a variety of music and independent movies. Hewett had a true love for animals, especially feeding the deer, bird and squirrels behind his home in Stafford. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of North Ridge Country Club, where Hewett loved playing with his group of "Morons".
In addition to his parents, Hewett is preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Willams; and his brother-in-law, John C. Leitner and his beloved stepfather, Ben Joe Williams; and his dear dogs, Charlie I and Charlie II.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Williams Leitner of Saint Petersburg, FL; niece, Lauren Gelston (Ben) and their children, Jack and Georgia Gelston; and niece, Jennifer Leitao and her daughter, Hayden, all of Saint Pete, FL; and a wide circle of friends.
According to Hewett's wishes, there are no services planned at this time.
