

Effie Oxendine Pearce of Kenly, formally of Raleigh passed away in her sleep Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Wilson Medical Center after declining health. She was born December 22, 1916 in Buies Creek and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ida Oxendine. She was preceded in death by her husband George Pearce, son Captain Douglas Pearce and daughter-in-law Leta Pearce. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Pearce Starling of Kenly and Deborah Pearce Poindexter (husband) Fred of Columbus, Ohio, grandchildren, Chan Starling Hales (husband) Tooie, Erik Poindexter, Chance Starling, Clif Poindexter and Kyle Poindexter and Great-grand-children, Holden, Gabby and Wyatt Hales.
She was a devoted member of Carolina Pines Baptist Church in Raleigh. She was a member & director of the WMU, member of the Joy Ladies Sunday School class, an active member of the visitation committee.
She retired from Dorthea Dix Hospital after over 40 years but continued to be busy volunteering for the Red Cross, the voting polls and spending time with her friends at the Pullen Park Garden Club. After moving to Kenly, she enjoyed attending the Kenly Senior Center. Her strong Christian character showed through the way she lived her life.
Services and visitation will be held at Carolina Pines Baptist Church in Raleigh on Monday, March 23 at 11 am and burial immediately following at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh
