
J. Carl Young was born in 1918 and raised in Angier, NC. He was a graduate of UNC and served in the Army in the Philippines during WWII as Captain of a Field Artillery unit. In 1947, he married Golda Gurley and they lived in Angier where he raised beef cattle, cotton and tobacco. Carl and Golda later moved to Raleigh, where in 1957, he founded Kip-Dell Homes, Inc.
His memory will be cherished by his children, Jenny Y. Kelling and Carl (Kip) G. Young; his grandchildren, Geneva Kelling and Carl Young, Jr.; brother-in-law, Worth P. Gurley; many nieces, nephews and their families. The family expresses special gratitude to Arnita and Augustus Brantley and the assistance of Mrs. Petty. The family has always appreciated and now wants to recognize each and every staff member of the first floor of the Stewart Health Center who provided such cheerful, attentive and loving care for many years. Thank you, also, to the specialists who worked with him.
Visitation will be at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s St., 7-9 pm, Wednesday, October 12, 2011. There will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Montlawn Memorial Park.
