Dr. James Ray Harris

Ray graduated from Tifton High School, Tifton, GA and Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, Auburn AL, College of Veterinary Medicine. Immediately after graduation he went into the US Army, where he served from 1943-1947, as a Captain.

He is survived by his 2 sons, James W. and Robert B. Harris, both of Raleigh; his niece Karen K. Tate and nephew Rick Kinnebrew, Jr. Ray was preceded in death by his dear wife of 49 years, Elena B. Harris; 2 brothers, Carl and Dreyfus Harris; 2 sisters Lucy Kinnebrew and Nell Boyette; sister- in- law Margaret Krum and brother –in- law Admiral Richard Kinnebrew.

Ray practiced with a pharmaceutical company in the Research Department. Later worked with the Department of Poultry Science with NC State University from 1961 to his retirement in 1986. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 31, at 2:00 pm, Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue. Raleigh. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Interment at Raleigh Memorial Park.
