

J.D. is survived by his loving wife, Vicki of 22 years and his cherished Corgi, Chopper. Others include his daughter, Cathy Martin and grandson, Mathew Godbee, both of Roswell, Ga.; sister Mary Lou of Raleigh and brother, retired Col. Charles J. Smith, his wife Annelise and son Ty of Wyomissing, Pa. Brothers-in-law include Bobby Perry and wife Lynda of Florida, Ricky Perry and wife Cindy of Elizabeth Cit, N.C.; Donnie Perry and wife Linda of Elizabeth City, N.C.; Aunt Mildred Wehrle of Dunbar, W.Va. and various cousins, nieces and nephews.
J.D. graduated from Garner High School in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army for 3 years. His 47 years in the electrical supply industry include GE Supply, Cameron & Barkley/Hagemeyer, Maddux/Mayer Electric, and J.D.S. Lighting Concepts. J.D. was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, March 15 from 12:00 noon until 1:45 at Trinity followed by a celebration of J.D.’s “Going Home” at 2:00.
