

Jean Garner Meekins, 89, of Raleigh, died peacefully at Transitions LifeCare Hospice Home on February 13, 2018. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Mildred Simpkins Garner and Gorden Lee Garner, husband Herbert G. Meekins, and son, Herbert (Herbie) G. Meekins, Jr.
A native and life-long resident of Raleigh, Jean attended Hugh Morson High School and married Herb after high school. She was an artist and colorist for both Siddell Studio and Burnie Bachelor Studio for over 50 years. She also loved her bridge club and working for Hudson-Belk in Crabtree Valley Mall in the lay-away and gift wrapping department for almost 40 years.
She is survived by her sister Virginia G. Mann and brother Lee Garner and wife Louise of Raleigh, NC; daughters Sandra Foor and husband Jim of Houston, TX and Galen Jones and husband Clark of Raleigh, NC; son Robert G. Meekins and wife Cathy of Peyton, CO; seven grandchildren including: Melanie French Rothwell of Houston, TX; Alexander Jones of Raleigh, NC; Tal, Olivia and Phillip DeBauche of Houston, TX; Robin and Randy Meekins of Peyton, CO, and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 12:30-1:30 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh). A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Canon Ben Jones officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Raleigh Memorial Park with assistance from pallbearers: Greg Mann, Jeff Mann, Jim Foor, Alex Jones, Clark Jones and Don Jones.
