After attending Salem College from 1944 - 1946, Jeane transferred to UNC - Chapel Hill where she was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate and treasurer of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. In 1950, she married Joe P. Baicy, who preceded her in death in 1976. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Stanley Pierce, Jr.
She is survived by her two children, Ann Reade Baicy of Apex, and John Kyser Baicy and his wife, Elizabeth (Missy), of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Joseph William Baicy, and John Nicholas Baicy (Jack) of Winston-Salem, and Nicholas Taylor Cheek of Cleveland OH; many cousins and nieces; life-long friend, Gerald Duke Holt; Goddaughter, Edwina Woodbury, both of Chapel Hill; and special family friend, Lyn Johnson, of Apex.
For 20 years Jeane worked at the Employment Security Commission (ESC) as a job placement specialist and as an employment counselor. Since moving to Raleigh in 1956, Jeane and Joe attended Christ Episcopal Church and upon her retirement from ESC, Jeane worked as a volunteer at the church for many years.
Jeane was known for her sense of humor and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with family and friends laughing and talking, unless it was going to or watching Carolina basketball games. She believed there was no finer university in the world than her alma mater. Reading, listening to music and going to movies were some of her other favorite pastimes.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9th at 1:00 pm at Christ Church, 120 E. Edenton St, Raleigh, NC.
