

Jerry Fuquay Richmond, Sr., 72, of Raleigh, North Carolina, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 10, 2012. He was born October 12, 1940 in Leasburg, N.C. to Spencer and Pearl Richmond.
Jerry met the love of his life Faye Campbell after a blind date and three years later were married on July 22, 1960. He was attending DTI and graduated in 1961, soon thereafter he began to work at Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, TN. In 1964 he and his family moved to Raleigh, N.C. and Jerry went to work for Corning Research Lab and later became Vice President of Exide. In June of 1969, Jerry started his own business, Southeastern Machine & Tool and many other businesses including Eutectic Electronics, Sun Medical Systems, Sun Aviation, Carolina Coil Corporation, Dispensing Systems, Atlantic Coil, Carolina Soy Products, and Southeastern Screen Print were formed. He also held several patents from various industries.
Jerry was appointed to the Board of Directors of NC Community Colleges, where he served 14 years and was President of Society Manufacturing Engineers. Jerry received The Order of Long Leaf Pines from the Governor James B. Hunt, in 1994. He also served as the Vice-President of Leasburg Hunting Club for 15 years. Jerry was a true pioneer in fabrication and machining and was instrumental in starting the first apprenticeship program for metal fabrication in conjunction with Wake Tech.
More than anything he was a family man who cherished his wife, his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Jerry was a hero, mentor, and an inspiring man with the highest level of integrity and respect. Jerry enjoyed playing golf with the “morons” at North Ridge Country Club, flying airplanes, hunting and his cabin in Caswell County, N.C., as well as motor coaching. He will be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father and “Ging-Ging” and will be missed dearly by everyone blessed to have known him.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Faye Richmond; son, Jerry Fuquay “Richie” Richmond, Jr. and his wife Penny; daughters, Karen Titka and her husband Carl and Sharon Miller and her husband Brent; brothers, Leon Richmond and his wife Mary Jane and Paul Richmond and his wife Brenda; grandchildren, Mallory Collins and husband Ryan, Jordan Richmond, Courtney Richmond, Zachary Titka, Olivia Titka, Drake Curtis and Ashlyn Curtis; great granddaughter, Kyleigh Collins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27612.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Mitchell Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Union Methodist Church Cemetery in Leasburg, N.C.
