I am so sorry to learn the news. I first heard of Dr. Luh when I was a graduate student. 5 years later I met him at a conference in Raleigh, and Dr. Luh treated all of the Chinese participants at a local restaurant. Later when we became colleagues 20 years ago, he has been a mentor and friend. At many occasions his advices helped me greatly. He shall remain in our memory!

Jiang Luh was my colleague from 1969 until his retirement. He was one of the most pleasant people that I have known. He was an outstanding advisor and teacher and member of our department. Most of all, he was a wonderful friend. I am fortunate to have known him.-Ernie Stitzinger

In 1970, 45 years ago, I took an offer from the physics department of NCSU. Physics and Mathematics both belong to the same college, so naturally Jiang Luh, a professor in Mathematics, is one of the first Chinese I got to know in NC.I was a newcomer, he extended a very helpful hand and we became good friends.
In 1975, Houming Chang and I began to think about making some investment in real estate. Although we were ambitious, we have very limited amount of capital. We have to gather several friends in order to do something. The very first person we thought of is Jiang Luh. Also, by the help of mutual friend, we had She-shin Wu join us. This started the 40 years of brother-like friendship. Danny Tai joined us a little later. In these 40 years, we had many success as well as some failures. Good or bad, we took it all in stride. We did not have any ill feeling in any occasion. I am very proud of this brother-like kinship because I do not know any other investment groups can make the same claim after four decades.
In the many projects we have undertaken, some involve large numbers of limited partners. To ensure the integrity of the projects, we need a clearheaded person, good at number as well as keeping records. Jiang Luh is the most qualify person for this job. This is a tedious job with no compensation. Jiang took up the responsibility with grace. In the 40 years, among dozens of projects, I did not recall a single mistake was made.
For years, we have Jiang done all these jobs without giving a second thought. Now with his passing, I realize there is one important thing I failed to do. I should have told him how much I appreciate his effort, how much I admire his integrity and how lucky I am to have a friend and partner like him. Losing him is a very big lost for me in the most personal sense. I shall miss him, always.

Dr. Luh was my PhD advisor. He held my hand throughout my difficult journey for five years. This was a time when I was in the United States for only one year and I was still struggling with a new language and new life style. He always welcomed me to his office with a smile, even when he was still eating lunch.
Most significantly, while I was working on paper with him to be published all the ideas came from him. When I got stuck he would explain to me very patiently. He was never critical with any sign of Impatience. We published several papers together, yet it is fair to say that he gave them to me including my PhD degree.
He invited his students to his house regularly. This was very special to me especially when I was still encountering the culture shock. He gave me the sense of home away from home. I felt safe and peaceful when I saw him and was with him. He was so loving, so friendly and so helpful.
My husband, who also took a few courses under Dr. Luh, and I visited Dr. Luh a few times after I graduated. We shared life and many laughs. We will always miss him and be grateful to him for being a very important part of our lives. Li-Jin & Craig Chung

The Luh's welcomed my Family onto their wonderful street in Springdale 10 years ago. Mrs Luh watched our 3 young girls one night to give us a much needed night out, which upon returning we learned how "crafty" kids can be. Mr Luh opened his arms as only a grandfather could, esp with my loving daughter Katie, as they shared a passion for math. Mr. Luh's kind and peaceful soul will live in our hearts. We will miss Mr Luh very much. Though we are sad to see Mrs. Luh move off our street, we are happy for her as she will be closer to Family. My wife and I will smile and think of the Luh's daily walks, often holding hands, proving 59 years of marriage is a daily Joy.

My wife and I have been next door neighbors to the Luh family for 30 years. My son Brian was in many of his classes at NC State. He always spoke highly of Dr. Luh and enjoyed his sense of humor in the class room. He will leave a huge void in our little neighbor hood in Springdale.
We will miss his always smiling face and good humor. His care and loving way with his wife. His interest in and concern for others.
Please know he had an impact on many lives and will be remembered fondly. We will pray for Mrs. Luh that she be given peace and have a good life with her son and grandchildren in Washington state.
We have made a donation to the NC State Dept. of Mathematics in his honor and memory.
We unfortunately cannot attend the funeral service but our thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

I have known Luh Jiang since l968 when we all came to NCSU in Raleigh, and he was in many way closer to me than my siblings who scatter in different countries. He was a man of warmth, honesty and integrity - a rare good trustworthy soul in this world. He will be painfully missed by many of his
friends.
