
Joe Lee Stevenson age 92 of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Bluefield VA, died on February 5, 2022. Born January 13,1930 in Maxwell VA, he was the son of the late John Melvin and Virginia Lockhart Stevenson.
He was raised in Princeton, WV and graduated from Princeton High School in 1948. Joe was also a graduate of McLains Business College, Concord University and Virginia Tech.
During the Korean War, he was stationed at Fort Gordon, GA in the US Army as a sergeant in the Military Police.
Joe was a Certified Public Accountant and accounting instructor. In 1995, he retired from Southwest Virginia Community College after teaching there for 27 years and was later awarded the honor of Professor Emeritus. For many years, he also served as a part-time instructor at Bluefield State College and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
He was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield for over fifty years.
Joe loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football, and listening to music. He was a prayer warrior and his faith and love for his Savior Jesus Christ were strong throughout his entire life.
He was preceded in death by Wanda Bailey Stevenson, his wife of sixty-three years.
He is survived by his daughter Melody Willis and her husband Marvin and his grandson Hunter Willis of Raleigh, NC.
At Joe’s request, there will be a private ceremony at Grandview Memory Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Dudley Funeral Home in Bluefield and Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh.
