Bob was born on August 17, 1937, to the late Louise Breakspear and Basil Crickmar in Manhattan, NY. Bob obtained his undergraduate degree at Virginia Military Institute, and his Masters in Engineering from New York University. He was employed for his entire career with Underwriters Laboratories as an Electrical Engineer. His employment brought his family to several locations over the years, from Great River, NY, Apollo Beach, FL, eventually coming to Raleigh in 1986 when UL opened their Research Triangle Park location. Bob retired after 30+ years with UL in 2000.
Bob met Priscilla Wilder Crickmar in 2014 while doing what he loved – watching sports. He was an avid fan of college sports, including Duke University. He was an experienced ‘cruiser’, having cruised with Priscilla 40 times over a 8 year span. Bob was happiest when he was spending time with his family, as well as playing golf.
In addition to his wife Priscilla, Bob is survived by his sons, Scott Crickmar, and his wife, Christina, of Leesburg, GA, Glenn Crickmar, and his wife, Sharon, of Raleigh; step-daughter, Lynya Engel, and her husband, Mike, of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Sydney, Rachel, Victoria, J.R. Crickmar, and Nathan Engel; brother, Donald Crickmar of Englehard, NC; and his brother-in-law, Dan Wilder, and his wife, Arlene, or Farmville, NC.
A memorial service was held on Friday, May 27, 2022, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest next to his first wife, Lorraine.
