John Edgar Moore

John Edgar Moore, 89, passed away in the comfort of his home in December 17, 2020. Born in Dinwiddie, Virginia on December 16, 1931; he was the son of the late James Samuel Moore and Jane Safford Walker Moore.

John briefly attended the University of Virginia following his stint in the Army, and retired from Sears management, going on to run several successful small businesses. He and Eunice loved travelling and vacationing with family and friends, and after finally retiring, he enjoyed raising roses and making bluebird houses for friends and neighbors, flowers and birdwatching being two of his passions. Mr. Moore was also a fan of the opera.

He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter Lynn Jeanette Moore of Richmond Va, and his granddaughters Summer Buzzell and husband Jeremy, Jessica (Megan) Fletcher and husband Nik Karvounis, and Lexi (Alexandra) Faraday, as well as his great-granddaughters Despina, Arianna, and Kaliope, and by his beloved canine companion, “Bud-Bud”.

He is also survived by lifelong friends, including Lawrence Phelps of Petersburg VA, Larry and Mary Higgins of Raleigh, and Jesse Wiggins of Raleigh, and the Ripleys of Georgia. John was also helped greatly in recent years by Mr. Higgins, longtime neighbor, friend and dog-walker, Audrey Totin, and caregiver April Brand.

His death follows those of his cherished wife of 50 years, (Mary) Eunice, their dear Pug “Mikey”, Mr.

Moore’s parents, two brothers Jimmy and Allen, and three sisters Sally, Nancy and Jane.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 2 pm at the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, with entombment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. For those unable to attend, live streaming will begin at 1:55 pm, with a recording posted immediately afterwards.
