John Franklin Reed

John was a veteran of the US Navy, and served in Northern Ireland. He graduated from NC State University, receiving his degree in Sociology. He worked as a social worker in San Diego, CA for over 20 years. Upon retirement, John moved back to North Carolina where he enjoyed volunteering and teaching Spanish to others.

He is lovingly remembered by his two brothers; William Reed and his wife Joy of Raleigh and Roland Reed and his wife Annie of Lake Havasu, AZ. He will also be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews, Scott and Chantal Reed, Keri and Pasquale DeMaio, Beth and Amy Reed, TommyLynn Upchurch, and great-nephew, Tyler and great nieces, Charlotte and Julia Reed, and Harley Upchurch. John will also be missed by his dear companions, Charlie and Lucy. He was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Patricia Upchurch.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Raleigh Elks Club on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh, NC.
