

Joseph grew up in Long Island, New York, where he met his wife, Jennie. They were married in 1942, just before being drafted into the US Army, serving in Germany during WWII. He was an entrepreneur and started his own septic and sewage business. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, golf, and playing cards. He had the ability to draw friends and family close and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by Jennie, his wife of 70 years; his daughters, Ann Hildebrand, of Port Jefferson, NY, Josie Fitzgerald and husband Kenneth, of Wilmington, NC, Carol Setzer and husband Russell, of Bayville, NJ, and Elaine Pozarycki, of Raleigh, NC. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Brian, Susan, Janice, Kelly, Tracy, Debbie, Amy, Lori, Janie, Jill, Catherine, Jenny and Richard; and by his great-grandchildren, Peter, Samantha, Joseph, Michael, Shane, Allyssa, Ryan, Trevan, Hunter, Kamryn, Brennan, Mitchell, Casey, Dana, Alexandra, Dalton, Ryan, and London.
The family will receive friends and family, on Sunday, December 16, from 2:00-4:00pm, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Monday, December 17, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, on the corner of Hillsborough and McDowell Street, Raleigh. Entombment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum.
