

He was born on May 24, 1919, in Bladen Co, NC, to Oscar and Lovedy Kelly McCrainy Hamilton. At 12 years of age, Lacy and his family moved from Troy to a farm in Sampson County near Spivey’s Corner, where he later graduated from Mingo High School in 1936. He attended the University of Texas A&M. Later, he studied at the School of Engineering at N. C. State University, following his service in WWII as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp, where he was a flight instructor for B-25s. He held the rank of Captain.
He founded Pioneer Awning & Window Company in Raleigh in 1961 and served as president and owner of the highly successful home improvement company until his retirement in 1990. His company was noted for its specialty storm doors and windows, locally made to order, and were often installed on older homes, churches and historical buildings, including the Governor’s Mansion in Raleigh.
He was a former president of the Capital City Kiwanis Club of Raleigh and was a devoted and long-time member of the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. He was also an avid wood carver, who specialized in making bowls and refurbishing old tools. He was a member of Hayes-Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Dolores D. Hamilton (1993); and by brothers, Mack Hamilton of Dunn; Elwin Hamilton of Raleigh; Vernon Hamilton of Virginia Beach, Va., and sister, Eula H. Wilson of Kings Mountain, N. C. In addition, he was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Wilma Dupree Hamilton of Wilkesboro, N. C. (2009).
He is survived by his daughters, Sandy H. Newton and husband, Ray, of Charlotte, N. C.; Madeline Hamilton, and Donna H. Malone, and husband Charles, of Raleigh, N. C. Grandchildren, Sharon Connelly of Brooklyn, N.Y., Craig Newton of Charlotte; and David Malone of Raleigh. Stepson, Wade Dupree of Arizona ; stepdaughters, Judy Faw and husband, J. C. of N. Wilksboro, NC; Linda Hensley and husband, Dean, of Houston, TX. Step-grandchildren: Guilford Barnhill of Raleigh; Sloan Bodford of Wilmington, N.C., and Jennifer Tully of Houston, Tx. And his brothers, Howard Hamilton of Godwin and wife, White Hamilton; and Donnie Hamilton of Tennessee.
Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh on Friday, March 26. Visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m.
