

Lawrence J. Weiler, 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Stewart Health Care Center at Springmoor Retirement Community. Born on December 14, 1919 in Port Chester, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eda Bauer Weiler.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Hadsell Weiler, of Raleigh; four children: Robert Weiler, and wife, Susie of Charlotte, NC; Susan Franson, of Flemington, NJ; Debra Crozier, of Cary, NC; and Pamela Damron and husband Jim, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Franson, Kelly Crozier Cherry and husband Mark, Michael Crozier, Andrew Weiler and wife Amy, and Matthew Weiler and wife Rachel; great-grandchildren, Preston Crozier, Elle Weiler and Caeden Weiler; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hadsell. His brother Robert preceded him in death. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Larry attended Brown University for three years before enlisting into the US Air Force on December 8, 1941. He received orders to report to pre-flight school January 5, 1942 at Maxwell Field in Montgomery AL. He was reassigned to bombardier school and was trained at the Midland Bombardier School in Midland, TX. After being promoted to 1st Lieutenant and assigned to Chatham Field in Savannah, GA, he was trained on the B-24 Liberator prior to assignments overseas with the 15th Air Force, 55th Air Wing, 464th Bomb Group and both the 777th and 779th Squadrons. He flew raids in both Africa and Italy where he became Squadron Bombardier and was promoted to Captain. Larry was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in March 1946.
Larry worked in the purchasing field in several companies in NYC and the surrounding area. He lived in Wilton, CT for many years before retiring to Oriental and Minnesott Beach, NC in 1983 to enjoy the beach, playing golf and visiting with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He relocated to Raleigh, NC to Springmoor Retirement Community in 2004.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2:30 pm in the Auditorium at Springmoor Retirement Community (1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, NC).
