

Lella Smith Vaught, 106, of Raleigh, formerly of Oxford, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Stewart Health Center at Springmoor Retirement Community. Lell was born in Franklinton, and spent most her life in Oxford, NC, until she moved to Springmoor in Raleigh in 1999. She was the daughter of the late Wade Hampton and Lena Harris Smith. She was married to the late Wilbur L. Vaught for 65 years, until his death in 2003. They were longtime active members of Oxford United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mabel Henderson Smith, and Lucille Brent Smith; and her grandson-in-law, Andrew Harmon Whitley.
She is survived by her daughter, Caroline V. McCall; 2 grandchildren, Kimberly McCall Whitley, and Dr. L. Dana McCall and his wife, Shore Tucker McCall; 3 great grandchildren, Laura McCall Whitley and Andrew Harmon Whitley, Jr., and Lindsay Anne McCall, all of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Jo Vaught Cain and husband, Glenn of Bladenboro, NC.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 13 at 11am at Springmoor’s Auditorium in Raleigh. A graveside service will follow Friday at 3pm in Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church, 120 East Edenton St. Raleigh, NC 27601.
