Leroy graduated from Raleigh Methodist Orphanage High School, Class of 1954, now known as Methodist Home For Children (MHFC.org). After some coursework at East Carolina University, he honorably served in the United States Navy. In 1960, Leroy married Marie Elledge and they were blessed with 58 years together, living most of those years in Raleigh. His primary occupation was as a warehouse manager for a transportation company. Leroy was known for calling friends and family and singing “Happy Birthday.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Hobson, and two brothers, William Hobson (Cecily) and John Hobson. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Steve Broome; two grandsons: Joshua Broome and Matthew Broome; his sister-in-law, Julia Hobson, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Raleigh Memorial Park, directly adjacent to Mitchell Funeral Home, located at 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
