Lexa Cornett Taylor

Mrs. Taylor was born November 18, 1923 in Louisville, Kentucky to Charles and Verda (Smith) Cornett. She was raised in Hazard, Kentucky with her three brothers. She met Wallace Reed Taylor at Hazard High School, and the two were married in 1946. Together they had four children and ultimately settled in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1954 where they lived until Wallace’s death in 2009.

Mrs. Taylor was an active member of Park Road Baptist Church in Charlotte where she spent many years volunteering in the nursery and as an assistant preschool teacher. Of all her roles at Park Road, she most loved organizing and cooking for Family Night dinners on Wednesdays for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Taylor is remembered by her family as a warm and loving mother and grandmother with a delightful sense of humor; someone who was always open, tolerant and accepting of everyone around her and solid in her faithful foundation. She loved music and singing and was always on top of her children’s and grandchildren’s current music interests. She was a fantastic cook and baker and loved preparing meals for family and friends.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her four children, Linda (Douglas) Leupen of Raleigh, N.C., Wallace (Patricia) Taylor Jr., of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Manuel (Deborah) Taylor of Apex, N.C. and Nancy T. (John) Brooks of Simpsonville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Brad (Christa) Leupen, Lauren (Scott) Kimmel, Paul Taylor, Alexandria Leupen, Evan Brooks, Luke Brooks and Jena Brooks, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace, her parents, and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 2 at 2:00 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service at Brown-Wynne. All are welcome to attend.
