

Margarita “Daisy” Hassin, the loving wife of Charles K. Hassin for 39 years, passed away March 5, 2013 at the Durham VA Hospital.
Daisy was born August 18, 1946 in Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of the Nepomuceno and Margarita Quinones. Daisy held degrees at several universities including the University of Puerto Rico, North Carolina State University, and the College of William and Mary. Daisy was a very well educated and intelligent woman.
Daisy served in the Women’s Army Corp where she was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on August 8, 1968. She was promoted to Captain in 1970. Daisy served a tour of duty in Korea in 1970, where she met her future husband, Charles Hassin. She was one of the original WAC Officers who were part of the integration of the Women’s Army Corp into the regular Army. After the integration was complete, she was assigned to the Army Transportation Corp at Ft. Eustis, VA.
Daisy married Charles K. Hassin on December 29, 1973 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her family said that she always liked to say that while she was not born in North Carolina, she got here as quick as she could. She loved her family and friends and was a dog lover as well. Daisy also was a long time member of the NCSU Wolfpack Club.
Daisy is survived by her husband, Charles Kelly Hassin; son, Charles Keith Hassin and wife Norma; grandson, Charles Kelly Hassin, II. She is survived by three siblings; Brother John Quinones and wife Carman; Sister Rose Arroyo and husband Wilmer; Brother Antonio Quinones and wife Nini; and sister-in-law Tati Quinones. In addition to her parents, Daisy was preceded in death by her brother, Julio Quinones.
The funeral rite will be held at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
