

Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2022. After a lengthy illness, she is now able to enjoy
the long walks she loved so much. She was a loving and doting wife, mother, grandmother,
daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to all.
Born on August 27, 1943 in Portsmouth, VA, the family returned to McLeansville, NC following
the war, where she lived with her parents Curtis and Lib Kennedy. There she grew up a
member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, and was married there to her husband of 57
years, Jerry Sherrill.
After a few years out of state, Fran, Jerry, and their children settled in Raleigh, NC in 1974.
Upon moving to Raleigh, Fran and Jerry became and have remained faithful members of
Highland United Methodist Church. Fran loved her church. She worked in the nursery, was
involved with the United Methodist Women, was active in her Circle, and was a staple in the
Upper Room Sunday School class.
Fran had an esteemed career as an educator, bringing her love of learning and children
together. She taught pre-school at Highland UMC, prior to working as a Teacher Assistant with
special needs students for the Wake County Public School System. She later transitioned to
working in a traditional classroom. In 1995, Fran was awarded the Wake County Teacher
Assistant of the Year by the Wake County Teacher Assistant Association. She retired from
working in the schools in 2008.
Fran is preceded in death by her mother, Lib Kennedy. She is survived by her loving husband,
Jerry Sherrill of Garner, NC, daughter Deana King and husband Randall of Davidson, NC, and
son Curt Sherrill and wife Robin, of Apex, NC. Fran was lovingly known as Nana to her
grandchildren, Andrew King of Brooklyn, NY, Ethan King of Charlotte, NC, Addison and Zachary
Sherrill of Apex, NC as well as her grandkitty Spooky and granddog Yogi. She is also survived
by her 99 year old father Curtis Kennedy of McLeansville, NC, and her brother Roland Kennedy
of Kernersville, NC.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Highland United
Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC with a graveside service on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at
11:00 am at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC.
