

Born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1942, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Mary Ann was the daughter of Stanley and Sylvia (Helmick) Baughman. She attended Jane Lew High School and later studied at Charleston School of Commerce and Capital City Business School in Charleston, West Virginia.
Mary Ann married the love of her life on June 13, 1964, and together they shared many happy years, including a memorable 50th wedding anniversary celebration before he preceded her in death. In 1981, she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she built a life centered on family, work, and community.
She worked for Kroger in a division office in Charleston and later earned her North Carolina real estate broker’s license, practicing from 1984 until 2014. Mary Ann was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and welcoming spirit.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Cheryl (Ron) Kapella Raugh and David Kapella; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with family and being included in family vacations and gatherings.
Mary Ann was a talented seamstress and enjoyed reupholstering furniture as a personal hobby. She also loved to travel, especially to Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe, which were among her favorite destinations.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the residents and staff at Capital Oaks for their friendship, support, encouragement, cards, flowers, and especially the prayers shared with Mary Ann throughout her time there.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
