Mary Ann Lockerman (Mimi) of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on May 9th, 2024 of Interstitial Lung Disease at the age of 78 with her family and friends by her side. She was born on January 4th, 1946 in Williamston, North Carolina and was an only child to the late Robert and Mary Florence Modlin. She had many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends in Williamston where she spent the first part of her life.
Mary Ann graduated from Williamston High School in 1964 and then attended Granville School of Commerce before relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina. Mary Ann spent the next 35 years in various roles within the IBM Corporation before retiring in late 2000.
Mary Ann was fortunate to have many very special friends and they were always planning their next trip to warm weather either on a cruise to the Bahamas, the Pamlico River, Florida, or The Outer Banks just to name a few.
Mary Ann was a very selfless person who loved giving to others and always made everyone feel loved and welcome. She loved nothing more than spending time with her 4 grandchildren and was always dressed and ready for any activity they chose for the day. Trips to local parks, the mall, dining out or just playing at her house with a bounty of toys was a great day for Mimi. Her house was always her grandchildren’s home away from home and as her grandchildren got older and more involved in sports activities Mimi was always there to cheer them on.
Mary Ann loved her grandchildren but she also loved her animals just as much and never met a stray that she did not care for. She loved to leave treats out in the for the neighborhood cats, rabbits, or even a hungry raccoon looking for a meal. Her children’s animals though always had a very special place in her heart and in her home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Modlin and mother, Mary Florence Modlin and is survived by her husband, Tony Lockerman; two daughters, Ashlee Huntley and husband Will Huntley and Shelley Lockerman and wife Natasha Lockerman; four grandchildren, Mary Grace Huntley (18), William Huntley (16), Charlotte Lockerman (10) and Edith Lockerman (7).
The family would like to than the UNC Hospitals and SECU Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC for the care and compassion they showed the family during her final days.
