Ned Gerald Kirby

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 11:00 am at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612. Interment will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park.

Mr. Kirby is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anne Didlake Kirby , daughter, Karen Lynn Walsh and husband, Bobby of West Point, VA; son David Alan Kirby of Sanford, NC; three grandchildren, Ashley Lynne, Ryan Joseph, and Robert James Walsh III; one brother, William M. Kirby and wife Gloria of Danville, VA; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Didlake of Richmond, VA; and 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy H. and Janie M. Kirby; and brother, James Kirby and his wife Virginia all of Danville, VA.

Following graduation from Schoolfield High School in Danville, VA; he served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army as a commissioned infantry officer. Ned graduated from Virginia Tech University and worked 35 years for electric utilities. He retired from Progress Energy in 1992 as a Department Manager. He was a member of Ridge Road Baptist Church in Raleigh and a member of Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge Danville, VA for 54 years.

The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ridge Road Baptist Church.
