

Norman graduated from Durham High School in 1954 where as a senior he stated in the yearbook that his ambition would be "To serve and please God". He went on to graduate from Emmaus Bible College in Chicago, IL.
He served his country in the National Guard and U.S. Army. Norman felt called to serve the Lord on the mission field in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Singapore, and Southeast Asia for 18 months, while engaged to Carolyn Joyce Wheeler. Norman wrote his sweetheart throughout the weeks of their separation...those letters are a treasure to his family today.
He helped start Northgate Chapel in Durham and was instrumental in bringing the AWANA youth program to N.C. After moving to Raleigh he served for over 30 years teaching and preaching the gospel in Sunday School and Prayer Meeting services at North Raleigh Chapel.
Norman owned a construction company for many years and there is a little piece of him throughout the entire city of Raleigh as well as surrounding counties, through the homes that he built from the ground up as well as remodeled.
Norman is preceded in death by his brother Charles Sims and his sister Bonnie Suitt.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years Carolyn Joyce Wheeler Sims, sister Elizabeth Martin (Cleo), sister Roberta Addison (Dan), sister Margaret Hood (Ronnie), and brother Thomas Sims (Cindy); his two children, Shelley Hamilton and son-in-law Robby, and son Greg Sims and friend Rodolfo.
Also surviving is his granddaughter Ashley Hamilton Shelley and her husband Jordan, and his grandson Blake Hamilton.
The family will receive friends at North Raleigh Chapel, 5421 Six Forks Rd in Raleigh at 1:00pm Friday Feb 21st, followed by a service to celebrate his life at 2:00pm.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro, N.C. for the loving care her received during his time there.
