Odell Sheldon Bryan

Odell was born November 21, 1917 in Horry County, SC to the late Benjamin Bertrum Bryan and Nova Ruth Bellamy Bryan. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving as a combat engineer. Odell was a home builder in Wake County for many years and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post #551.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Luticus Bryan; Beaty Benjamin Bryan; Rester William Bryan; Ralph Layman Bryan; and Harry Eugene Bryan.

Odell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mertie Cooper Bryan; daughter, Dawn Bryan Hartley and her husband, Barron Kevin Hartley of Knightdale; one grandchild, Bryan Keith Hartley; and one great grandchild, Sophia Brooke Hartley; brothers, Wilson Cleo Bryan; Carl Ogburn Bryan; Harold Ray Bryan; Ivy Lamar Bryan; and sister, Nova Ruth Bryan Jones.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 824 North Bloodworth Street, Raleigh, NC 27604. Burial will follow the service at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 4:00-6:00 pm Monday, January 9, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.
