Robert Harold Cook

Robert Harold Cook (Bob) died April 15, 2010 at the City of Oaks Health and Rehab Center in Raleigh after a lengthy illness. Bob was born in Shelbyville, Indiana to Harold and Jean App Cook. He grew up in Columbus, Indiana and played high school basketball, which later brought him to Raleigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn and daughters: Jackie Cook Marshburn and husband Dan, of Sanford, NC; Elizabeth Cook Rohweder and husband Thomas, of Raleigh; Patricia Cook Britt and husband Victor, of Apex, NC; five grandchildren: Eric Marshburn and wife Meredith, of Greensboro; Laura Marshburn, of Sanford; Kyle Rohweder, Austin Rohweder, of Raleigh and Abbie Britt, of Apex.

In 1948, Bob was recruited by Everett Case to play basketball at North Carolina State University (then known only as “State”). He was on the State team from 1948 to 1952. He was in ROTC at State and upon graduation, served two years in the Korean War. In 1964, he married Evelyn and had a 40 year career in real estate in Raleigh.

He loved his family more than anything in the world, and never met a stranger. He always pulled for his beloved Wolfpack team. He was a wonderful, loving husband and grandpa. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and friends, and particularly his nurse Scott, at the City of Oaks for their care over the last four months. Also, the family thanks everyone who took part in his health care over the last few years. A special thanks to Jeanne Brown, RN, Cynthia vonder Lehr, Tressie, Julia and Chaplain Eric of Heartland Hospice for their loving care, and family friend, Karen Murray Wallace.

Family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue), with funeral services will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
