Duane was born on November 14, 1963, in Raleigh to Bobby Lee Dillard and the late Annetta Lou “Sue” Dillard. He was educated in the Wake County public schools and went on to attend Wake Tech Community College, where he pursued an electronics degree.
In 1986, Duane began working for the Wake County School System as a carpenter. After completing his classes in electronics, he transitioned to the fire alarms, intercoms, and PA systems division, where he devoted himself until his retirement in 2016.
Duane was a genuine, Godly man—a devoted husband, father, and friend—whose life was a shining example of integrity, loyalty, and love. Known for his ready laugh and warm presence, he lit up every room he entered and never met a stranger. He excelled at sports throughout school and beyond and remained a passionate fan all his life.
After retirement, Duane enjoyed spending time in his workshop, where his love of woodworking allowed him to create, build, and share his talents with others. He especially cherished hosting family gatherings, where he was happiest surrounded by loved ones, sharing laughter, stories, and good food.
He also loved traveling with his family and embraced every opportunity to experience the world with them. Above all, Duane loved life deeply and lived it fully, pouring every ounce of himself into the people and moments he held dear. His strength, kindness, and joy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire generations to come.
Duane is survived by his wife, Christine S. Dillard; his son, Matthew Dillard; father, Bobby Lee Dillard; brother, Darryl Dillard, and his wife, Nicole, of Sherril's Ford, NC; and his nephews, Spencer Dillard, Tyler Dillard, and his wife, Anna.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 2:00pm at Ebenezer Community Church in Raleigh. The family will receive visitors prior to the service, beginning at 12:30pm.
