

Robin Kelly Whitlock Smith, 38, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012. She is survived by her husband Jeffrey Morgan Smith and daughter Elizabeth Morgan Whitlock Smith of Cary, NC; her parents, Roy Clarence Whitlock and Bonnie Jenkins Behrendt of Culpeper, VA; and her sister Haley Whitlock Gyory of Culpeper, VA.
Robin was born and raised in Elkwood, VA and graduated from Culpeper County High School in 1991. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia, Robin earned her law degree from Duke University. Robin worked as an attorney at Mayer Brown & Platt in Chicago, IL and Smith Anderson in Raleigh, NC. Most recently, Robin served as in-house counsel at GlaxoSmithKline in Research Triangle Park, NC.
Robin was beautiful, incredibly smart, so funny, elegant, witty, full of grace and style, and a fighter beyond compare. Above all, she was a remarkable mother, who selflessly gave everything she had for her beloved daughter. Despite walking a more difficult journey than most people twice her age, she vibrantly lived and celebrated life.
A celebration of Robin's life will be held at the Doris Duke Center, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Duke University, 420 Anderson Street, Durham, NC 27708 on Saturday, May 26 at 11 am. A memorial service and reception will be held at the Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 South West Street, Culpeper, VA 22701 on Tuesday, May 29 at 11 am. Interment will be private; local arrangements are being handled by Clore-English Funeral Home.
