

She was born near McGee’s Crossroads in Johnston County on January 27, 1924 to the late William Paul Sr., and Maytle Johnson Stephenson, and is survived by her loving husband, “Holly,” of nearly 67 years, Leon M. Hollingsworth; daughter, Paula Williams (Richard); son, Gary Hollingsworth (Linda); daughter, Joy Read (Terry); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Marshall Stephenson (Kay), and Shelby Stephenson (Linda), and sister-in-law Ann Stephenson. She is preceded in death by her brother, Paul Stephenson, Jr.
Family and faith were at the center of Rose’s life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a proud daughter of her beloved parents, a lover of Scripture and Bible Study, and a long-time member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. She was known for being a classy and fashionable southern lady, for her sharp wit and keen observations, and for her warm personality and knack for storytelling. She was a lover of hymns and her father and brothers’ bluegrass music, took pride in her heritage, and had the ability to see the value in every person and in every thing.
The family will receive visitors at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh on Tuesday, August 15 from 5:30pm-7:30pm. On Wednesday, a private burial service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park at 11am, followed by a memorial service at White Memorial on Wednesday at 2pm.
