

Susan Lynn Courville Baldwin of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts and lived the majority of her life in Raleigh, North Carolina. Susan graduated from Broughton High School and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She was a founding member of The Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi where she enjoyed many years of faith and fellowship.
Susan’s professional career included banking, church administration, and her greatest passion, residential construction. Her work was recognized by Home Builders Association of Raleigh as the recipient of several Parade of Homes awards during her career as a custom home builder.
Susan had many interests and hobbies throughout her life that all centered around family. Her sisters Joyce, Gail, Kathy, and Debbie were her most cherished friends with which she shared world traveling adventures, family celebrations, and constant support. She was a dedicated wife and mother that provided unconditional love and encouragement. When her daughters were young, she served as Girl Scout leader and developed close bonds with other young women that continued into their adulthood. She was a caring grandmother to her five grandchildren and took great joy in watching them blossom into young adulthood. Her well-curated scrapbooks that contain decades of joyful family moments, Christmas celebrations, birthdays, and vacations will give us a lifetime of comfort.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Henry W. Baldwin, Jr, her daughters, Lynn Holt (Bryan), Laura Smith (Alan), and Elizabeth, and her grandchildren Alex, Katelynn, and Wilson Holt, and Louis and Walter Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eloise Pike Courville and Robert J. Courville; infant sister, Mary Ann Courville; sister, Gail Courville Gilmore; and her brother-in-law, Nathan Hayes.
Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 pm with the funeral Mass to follow at 1:00 pm in the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at The Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi in Raleigh, NC. Internment will immediately follow at the church’s columbarium.
Family and friends are invited to gather following the funeral service at 3810 Lunceston Way, Raleigh, NC, 27613 to continue the celebration of Susan’s life and look through her scrapbooks that contain a lifetime of loving memories.
