In great sadness, the family of Tyler David Gilreath announces his passing on September 26, 2021. Tyler was the son of Tamra Demello of Apex, NC, and David Gilreath and his wife, Cheryl, of Delaware, OH.
Tyler had so much to offer the world. He was bright and had the gift of being able to figure out any new gadget or technology. He was the engineering co-lead of the TechnoWolves, a robotics team at Wake STEM Early College where he graduated cum laude in 2019. He attended Virginia Tech for a year where he was in the Corp of Cadets and played trumpet in the Highty Tighties. After the pandemic Tyler decided to return home to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington majoring in computer science.
Tyler was talented in many areas other than academics. He loved music and had a beautiful surprisingly deep voice. He was able to play the baritone as well as the trumpet and was teaching himself how to play the guitar. Tyler also loved the lake and was actually able to do a 360 wake surfing. He was incredible at achieving what he set his mind to do.
Tyler was absolutely loved as a son, a brother, and a friend. He had the ability to talk to anyone about almost anything. He was just fun to be with. He will be remembered for his huge compassionate heart, his red curly hair, his beautiful blue eyes, and his quick wit.
Tyler was selfless and before his passing he became an organ donor. His organs and parts of his body were donated to science and to people in need. His donation helped up to 80 people and his life will be carried on in the recipients.
Tyler is survived by his parents; his brother, Alexander James Eddy of Holly Springs, NC; his step-sisters, Rachel Ann Larsen and Nora Margaret Larsen, both of Charlotte, NC; his grandmother, Clara Demello Wandler and husband, Kip, of Fortuna, CA; his step-grandmother, Margaret Ann Causey, of Bunn, NC; his aunt, Lisa Gilreath Burney and her husband, Robert, of Apex, NC; his uncles, Keith Demello and his wife, Danette, of Fortuna, CA, and William Russell Gilreath, II, and his wife, AunDee, of Gastonia, NC. Also surviving are numerous cousins.
A Celebration of Tyler’s Life was held on Saturday, October 9, at 4:00 pm at United Church, 820 E. Williams Street, Apex, NC, 27502.
