He is survived by his daughter Hannah Chiles Wilks, husband Jonathan Carl Wilks, and grandson Jackson Fisher Wilks of Spivey’s Corner, N.C., son Joshua David Chiles of Raleigh, N.C., Jane Arey Chiles, mother to Hannah and Josh, his mother Betty Thomas Chiles of Fayetteville, N.C., sister Elizabeth Ann Chiles of Raleigh, N.C., and brother David Wilson Chiles of Wilmington, N.C.
He is preceeded in death by his father Major Urnie William Chiles, Jr.
Steve was born April 5th, 1954 in Anchorage, Alaska. Due to his father’s military service as a US Air Force fighter pilot, Steve lived in many places including Oregon, Oklahoma, Japan, eventually graduating from Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, N.C. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University, in which he was proud to be part of the wolfpack. He was an avid lover of music and frequently played guitar with his friends on the weekends. Steve loved to write, sing, and play songs on his guitars. Prior to Steve’s health issues he was an active member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he was a Stephen Minister.
Steve had his struggles, but he always loved his family, children, grandchild, friends, and music.
A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. The service may also be livestreamed via https://online.brushfire.com/wmpc
In lieu of flowers that donations/memorials may be made to the Stephen Ministry at White Memorial Presbyterian Church
