Willie E Davis

Willie E. Davis, 96, died Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Stewart Health Care Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Willie served with the U.S. Army and was employed by the State Treasurer and the N.C. Insurance Department prior to joining the Revenue Department in 1948 as an auditor with the Field Forces Division. In 1959, he transferred to the Intangibles Tax Division where he held the position of Administrative Officer.

As an active member of the Edenton Street Methodist Church he has served on the official board and as a past president of the Cokesbury Class, the Wake County Blind and Sight Committee; been elected to the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Durham Highway Fire Protection Association. He was also a member of the Men’s Garden Club of Wake County.

He was married to the former Mary Webb Griggs of Raleigh for fifty-seven years prior to her death in 1999. Survivors include his son, William Edward Davis of Stem, NC, brother, Gaither C, Davis, Jr. of Holden Beach, NC, sister, Nancy Katherine Davis of Winston Salem, and grandchildren: Derek, Holly, Benjamin, and Brittany Davis.

Services will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 3 PM at Edenton United Methodist Church 228 W. Edenton Street, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Gardens. Family will greet friends from 2 PM until the time of the service. Contributions in Willie’s memory can be made to Edenton United Methodist Church.
