She was born in Bulandshahar, India in 1940, the daughter of Nawal
Kishore Arya and Meena Kumari.
Born in India, she completed a Bachelor's in English, married at age 19, and devoted herself to raising her family. To build a better life, she came to America at age 31 with her husband and two young children.
While her husband went to classes so he could find a better job, Yagya
Wati supported the family financially by taking any work she could find - as a babysitter, assembly line worker in a food processing plant, and a department store assistant. Her husband eventually became a manager.
Her hard work enabled her children to focus on school. One child would
become a physician and the other an attorney. Later in life she
struggled with severe health setbacks but still gave unconditional love and attention to her grandchildren. Despite her frail health, she went to watch her oldest grandchild receive his college degree.
Yagya Wati was strong, loving, loyal, giving, and trusting. Her
greatest joy was playing with and spending time with her grandchildren.
She believed in God and her Hindu faith. She knows that her family will always need her love and she will always be with us.
Survivors include her son, Atul Goel and his wife Anita; daughter Vinita Goel and her husband Adam; and grandchildren Jay Goel, Leela Goel, and Rani Bernstein. She was preceded in her death by her husband, Mahendra Nath Goel.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 1:00 PM at
Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street.
