He was born on July 27, 1947, the first of three sons to Anthony and Dora (Sammartino) Tringhese of Youngstown, Ohio. A blessed childhood of close neighbors and family Italian Sunday suppers helped shape him into the man he became. A forever football fan and player from Immaculate Conception to Ursuline High School and adult league, he had many stories of gridiron excitement – Yes Ed, the City Series win over Chaney!
Drafted into the Army, Ed went to Vietnam where he served as an MP in the 504th Military Police, his affiliation continued to the present as a proud member of their Battalion Association. He was a very loud and proud supporter of police; Ed truly backed the Blue.
Ed and his wife Jeannette had a busy and fulfilling life together. He was able to retire at an early age from The Tamarkin Company and kept busy with house projects, getting together with friends, group vacations, building dioramas, cooking and model railroading with his grandson, Carter, as his chief engineer. Ed never met a Hawaiian shirt he wouldn’t wear, a winery he wouldn’t visit, a pineapple upside down cake he wouldn’t share, or a dinner he didn’t enjoy. He was truly fortunate to live in a community neighbors became family and help was plentiful when he needed it the most. One of his special joys was being a Santa Claus for family and neighbors, as he said, “He had the body for it.” His suit was recently donated to the Kent Fire Department.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife Jeannette, his brothers Anthony (Patti) of Austintown and Gary (Donna) of Boardman, his daughter Tina (Thomas) Taylor of Champion, Sherri (Paul) Merkle of Mecca, and his son Joseph (Sarah) Precurato of Palmyra Township. Ed was blessed with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His grandson Carter was his special buddy. He spent years babysitting where they had a routine of breakfast followed by visits to the family deli.
Ed, above all else was a devoted and committed animal lover. Any donations in his name to the Portage County Animal Protective League would be truly appreciated.
His wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family will be received Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home in Ravenna, with Military Honors scheduled at 5:30 PM.
