

Grace was born on June 28, 1921, to Frank and Bessie Barber of Ravenna, Ohio. She was a lifelong resident of Ravenna and member of Immaculate Conception Parish. Grace was married to the late John J. Gembar on July 25, 1942.
Mrs. Gembar attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and was a graduate of Ravenna High School. She attended cosmetology school in Akron and worked for a number of years as a beautician. She worked for many years as a cashier at Skorman’s Department Store in downtown Ravenna and later served as a payroll clerk for the Portage County Auditor until her retirement.
Grace is survived by her three children; Carol Valeri of Ravenna, James (Marsha Schumacher) Gembar of Alliance, and Richard (Alison) Gembar of Nashville, TN, as well as her brother Sebastian (Mary) Barber of Ravenna. Grace’s memory will also be cherished by her 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John J. Gembar, son-in-law John Valeri, brother August (Angie) Barber, sisters Anna (Joseph) Pannucci and Mary (Donald) Sapp, and infant twin siblings Carl and Carmella Barber.
Friends will be received Monday, October 27, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend William Kraynak at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
