Jane graduated from Cortland High School where she was an honor student, cheerleader and basketball player. On July 12, 1941, Jane married Robert E. Rudge Sr. who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war, they lived in Newton Falls and Champion where they raised four children. Jane was very involved in their children’s activities including Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and managing youth activities at Champion’s First Presbyterian Church, and was a member of on the Champion School Board.
Jane loved her work, assisting Dr. E. Thomas Harnish in Newton Falls for two years and then spending 15 years as an assistant for Dr. Anthony Candella and Dr. Joseph Cavalier in Warren. In 1971, she and Bob retired and moved to Phoenix, where they enjoyed swimming, bicycling, bowling, golf, dancing and playing bridge. Jane became a Jehovah’s Witness in Arizona, enjoying study of the Bible and reading it several times over. A voracious reader, Jane also read the Encyclopedia from A to Z and as many other books as she could get her hands on. The only time you’d catch her sitting still was with a book in her hands.
In 1986, Jane and Bob moved to Palmetto, Fla. to be near family. They spent 30 years loving the Florida scenery and weather, golfing, swimming, and attending her grandchildren’s school events. By 2004, all four of their children and spouses had moved to Florida and spent all birthdays and holidays together with Jane and Bob. Jane moved to Park Vista Assisted Living with her husband in 2016, where she resided until her death on Friday, May 3, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years who passed away March 31, 2018; her brother, William E. Wake Jr., and his wife, Mary McNaughton Wake; her nephew, William E. Wake III; her niece, Patty Thomas Zimmer; and two grandsons, John Robert Rudge and Christopher Rudge.
