Mike Mathia Jr.

MOGADORE- Mike Mathia, Jr., age 81, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022 at his residence.

Mike was born February 16, 1941 in Suffield, Ohio to the late Mike and Anna (Kerecman) Mathia. He graduated from Suffield High School in 1959, where he was a skilled athlete and held many school records. Mike worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years, and retired from Wartko Construction in 2006. He was a mechanical genius who could tear apart, and then rebuild anything.

Mike was a talented musician who could play any instrument, but he loved playing the accordion for people. He also loved the water and taught all three of his sons how to slalom ski as well as he did. Mike always was a social butterfly and enjoyed life! His charismatic personality lead to many great conversations and adventures. He could really shake a leg on the dance floor and never turned down the opportunity to join a good fracas.

Mike is survived by his ex-wife Betty (Keller) and their three sons, Daniel (Nancy) Mathia, Richard “Rick” (Sue) Mathia, Ronald “Ronny” (Lisa) Mathia; grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Cody, Cory, Jesse, Sarah, and Maggie, along with many great-grandchildren, his sister Margie (Mathia) Barr, his brothers Vincent Mathia III and Reg Thayer. Mike is also survived by his best friend and caregiver Bridget Sanders and her family, including: Cory Molai, Luke (Tara) Jones, Angel Molai, Hunter, Betty Sue, Brooklyn, and Amelia.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Margaret (Geltz) Mathia, his brother Robert Mathia, his nephew Tim Mathia, and Adam Molai, as well as his beloved dog “Tank.”

Friends and family will be received Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St. in Ravenna, with a time of remembrance following at 3:00 PM.
