He was born March 22, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, to parents Harvey Arnold and Margaret A. (Sloan) Skiver. Dr. Skiver has been preaching the Word of God for over 50 years. He started the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Toledo in 1980, and then moved to Ravenna to become Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church in 1990. He has touched countless lives through his fiery preaching, steadfast mentoring, and relentless witnessing, telling people about the Gospel of Christ! Pastor Skiver also enjoyed hunting, Buckeye football, New York Yankee baseball, collecting old radios with his lifelong friend Joe Tutak, shopping at thrift stores and flea markets and of course selling quality merchandise at his garage sales!
Faith and family were always paramount in his life. He married his beloved Rosemary on June 28, 1969. Richard is also survived by his daughter Tammy (David) Ballert, his son David (Shannon) Skiver, his brother Jerry (Karen) Skiver, his sister Patty (Andy) Distel, as well as generations of nieces and nephews. PaPaw’s memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren: Natalie (Jemuel) Laurel, Tiffany Ballert, Luke Ballert, Austin (Laurel) Skiver, Bailey Skiver, and his great-grandson Jonah David Laurel. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law Leslie and David Kanfield.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, January 12, 2021, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM and from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church. Friends and family will also be received from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Wednesday at the church, where funeral services will be officiated by his son-in-law, Pastor David Ballert at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo on Friday, January 15, 2021.
